me: why is it that i have the most fun putting little jokes into my drawings than actually doing the drawings themselves? like right now i'm doing these kitchen elevations, and i found a spot where some shelves could be by the window, so i put little potted plants on the shelves and they made me so happy. another time i was drawing this kitchen sink/cabinetry detail and i drew drops of water dripping from the pipe underneath and that made me really happy too. no one noticed forever, but when they did i had to erase them.

me: these are the happiest moments of my job - is that sad or what
him: like the time i put the koi pond with a little fish in it in the lobby of an office building... didn't go over well
me: ohh cute! see now that's what i'm talkin about. putting a little life into it
him: i think sometime in mid career you lose your sense of humor about such things
me: no way. i'll be like those disney illustrators, drawing penises in clouds... forever
him: heh - i'll try to sneak a penis into my next rendering.
