the future
friend: yo yo. you ever figure out what you gonna do about them exams?
me: i dunno. take them eventually i guess
friend: yea. i wouldn't worry about it too much. they suck and even if i were to get my license tomorrow, i couldn't design shit. i need at least like 10 more years of experience and fuck getting sued
me: yeah i don't want to stamp anything, ever
friend: my boss gets subpoenas all the time about condos
me: apparently you can get sued at any time? like within the lifetime of the building?
friend: yea pretty much
me: that's scary. buildings fall apart all the time, it's their nature
friend: and the attorneys go around to condos and wait like the 10 year period, and once that is up, they sue architects for all the problems. they cant do it in the first 10 years
me: that's so lame
friend: totally. so getting your license just means more fees every year. and if you aren't going to use it, there is no point. and the exams just suck. you waste weeks just studying for them. all i want to do when i get home now, is not think about architecture at all
me: yeah that's what depresses me. i will never be able to afford my own firm, or handle getting sued, or any of that. it just feels downhill from here but what the hell else am i gunna do?
friend: me too. lets start a firm. i don't know what we would do?
me: can we do outsider architecture
friend: mud huts
me: kind of like outsider art but building wise, and buildings in canyons like mesa verde!
friend: yea i dont know. now that im at this new job im sort of over architecture. its so fucking tedious and everybody in this industry is just a shady a-hole. builders, developers, etc..
me: yeah i just want to do art/architecture, like giant sculptures
friend: thomas heatherwick styles. no shit
me: like i just wanna build shit, and then leave, and let people do their own fucking thing with it and not be responsible for it. like a lot of those examples i pulled for my thesis. like the dude who made that house out of windows windows windows. i kind of wish i was crazy like that
friend: you are. or you were. or you can be again
me: i dunno i am all bogged down by practicalities
friend: just don't ever become like my boss
me: oh man she sounds horrible. i hope i am never that bitchy
friend: where she is just a slave to her job that she hates.
