i don't get it
i've had some run ins with friends who think it's okay to smoke (without asking if it's okay) in their car when other people (myself) are in it. when i ask them to wait to light up until we've arrived at our destination, they're all "it's my car!" and i'm all "it's my lungs!" i feel like i'm committing some sort of social faux paus but really? are you kidding me? to be honest i think it's really fucking rude in any confined situation to make people inhale your smoke. yeah, i know, i don't HAVE to inhale but oh wait, yeah i do cause i gotta breathe! christ. rolling down your window just isn't going to cut it. i don't understand the logic of these people, how on earth do they not see this as a problem?
do i offer to drive? perhaps they don't see it as a problem because i have a choice as to whether i want to be there or not, but that's the thing - they spring it on me while the car is in motion, not before we leave. so it's hardly a choice at that point. i would have offered to drive or taken my own car (when i still had one) or a cab for that matter if i had known they would have insisted on doing something that i find disgusting. with friends it should be understood that if something is offensive then you refrain. it's not a very friendly thing to continue to do it even after you've been politely asked not to.
in conclusion: basically my point is that i think smokers need to be more aware of the effects that their habits have on others (toxins, littering, etc.) and be more respectful.
