zombie

man my feet hurt. long day. so i didn't boycott the parade after all - i needed a break after spending this entire weekend indoors inhaling paint fumes. it was actually pretty cool to get out and see the neighborhood transformed. so many people on the street, more cops than i have ever seen in this area before, and enough bootyshaking to last me til next year's parade. the craziest parts were the semi trucks - giant semis with huge trailers on back, and the trailers are stacked and filled to the brim with giant speakers. no wonder i could hear the music all the way back to my apartment - sometimes it was so loud that the music i had playing on my laptop would get drowned out completely. i'm amazed my cat could nap through all that noise.

i am exhausted. i am taking tomorrow off to get this painting project done. i've finished the moonlight white, and the masking is almost all set up and ready for the grey. i just need to do one more coat of the color, then i can start painting the grey pinstripes and prepping the image areas. okay actually i have a lot more work as far as those are concerned - scanning, printing, mounting.

i'm pretty psyched though - i had messed up an area and wasted an hour wondering how to fix it... when i finally came up with the solution it made the design better than i had originally planned. of course, i'm being especially meticulous which is why this project is taking so long to complete. when i know something could look good, i just go at it full force and give it everything. at one point when i was drawing the masking lines on the wall i started to zone out - i'd walk away from the task and daydream for a second before i realized what i was doing was wasting time. i haven't had zombie moments like that since school. i haven't been that lost in what i was doing for so long - to the point of where that i got so tired i couldn't carry on but still did anyway because it had to get done. i know it sounds kind of distorted to be so happy about being a zombie, but those are the best moments. the sort of sacrifice of yourself for your work. i know this is just a bedroom and it's just paint and a few silly pictures, but... i dunno. i'm happy. i like being lost in design. it makes up for everything else that's lacking. i missed out on this entire weekend and sunshine and bike rides and whatever else i could have done with my time, yet if i was going to miss out, this is the best way to do just that.
